There are different levels of progressives?

With the dawning of the digital age of manufacturing progressive lenses, labs have been able to refine and improve manufacturing. So much so that we have seen adaptation rates sore to almost 100%. Being able to manipulate the process of making these lenses has led to many additional factors that will affect their final design. This has also created different levels of customization progressives.

So, where do you start? Our philosophy has always been to never over-sell. When you come to us for your first progressive, we begin with a design that has been hugely successful for us. We provide a 90-day adaptation and warranty period. Within this timeframe, you can navigate your daily life to see if these lenses are performing to your expectations. If there are any problems or issues, we take care of them accordingly. This may involve modifying the current lens design to address issues, or it may require moving up to a fully customized lens design.

What is the difference between the designs? It’s basically the level of customization in the design. Think of parameters as ingredients to a recipe — the more customized the design, the more ingredients go into this recipe. The fully customized lens designs will give you the maximum width the field for reading and the softest distortion peripherally. This category has been exceptionally successful for former progressive lens dropouts — those with higher or complicated prescriptions, and those who have strong near vision demands.

How do I know which one is right for me? Our process is to embark you on a progressive lens journey — we start with our regular lens that we have been very successful with and simply see what the results are. If there are any issues that can’t be resolved at this level, we simply move up to the fully customized design and see if all issues have been addressed. Just as with medication or treatment for an ailment, your physician prescribes a course of action which has a track record of success. If that doesn’t work, they will opt for more specialized courses of action. This may involve higher cost, but may yield success. In essence, your body is choosing the treatment that works for itself. The same applies for progressive lenses. Your brain will tell you which level is the most suited for you. As mentioned, our success rate is virtually 100%. If you have had difficulties with progressives in the past, perhaps you were not in the right type of lens.

Still have questions? Please feel free to call or come in. We are always here to answer any questions and discuss any issues you’ve had with progressives in the past. We’d love to make you a progressive wearer again!
